Chief Marketing Officer & Vice President of Marketing, Insights and Communications for the University of St. Thomas, Kymm Martinez, graced the Think & Link stage on Thurs., August 15, 2019.
About the Speaker
Kymm currently serves as the Vice President, Marketing, Insights and Communications and first Chief Marketing Officer at the University of St. Thomas, the largest private university in Minnesota. She heads the 52-person Marketing, Insights and Communications Team, which oversees marketing strategy and creative, public relations, publications, and marketing insights/analytics. Kymm joined St. Thomas in September 2016. Prior to that, Kymm worked in marketing for 19 years at General Mills, an $18B Fortune 200 consumer packaged goods company with internationally recognized household brands such as Cheerios, Yoplait, Haagen-Dazs, Pillsbury, Annies and Betty Crocker. Before she left General Mills, Kymm held the position of Vice President, Marketing and Sales Capabilities for Latin America where she oversaw marketing strategy and creative, marketing capabilities and category management. Kymm received her BA in international relations/economics from Mt. Holyoke College and her MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University. She is a past Board Director of Mediterranean Snack Food Co. and a current Board Member of Arts Midwest.
About the Talk
Kymm will speak about her transition from consumer packaged goods marketing to higher education and provide observations on when the marketing toolkit translates – and when it doesn’t -- across industries. She will also speak to the challenge of building a modern marketing organization from the ground up, using examples of how the University of St. Thomas is evolving its storytelling to be breakthrough and relevant. Topics of consumer insight generation and educating non-creatives on how to provide good creative feedback will also be discussed.
