Inside the Capsule: Intern Spotlight on Nathan

Get to know one of our design interns, Nathan Killiam.

1. How did you get to Capsule? (background, school, hometown, etc)
I grew up in Northfield, Minnesota surrounded by the arts; my mother, grandmother, community, and peers. I was always painting, photographing, and filming throughout my youth. As I began my college search I happened upon the graphic design program at the University of Wisconsin–Stout. I honestly had no idea what graphic design was at the time. Boy, was I in for a wild ride! I soon realized it was the perfect fit for me. The intersection of art and purpose. Which is perfect for me; as a self-proclaimed “practical person,” I tend to do things with intent. It’s my desire to create things with purpose that brought me here.

2. Why are you interested in design?
I love making things. Always have. It used to be building with Legos, then it was creating intricate camo designs on airsoft and paintball guns, then I learned to use digital cameras and video cameras (along with their corresponding editing programs). I then became the official “documenter” of all my friend’s shenanigans. Design brings together my favorite things in the world, art, functionality and practicality, and people. I get to make beautiful, functional things for people to experience every day. Whether it’s websites, logos, business cards, product packages. You name it. I want to have my hands on it. I also love collaboration, I am a very vocal person and I enjoy intellectual conversations because it’s through these conversations that we uncover the best ideas.

3. What do you bring to the Capsule team?
I bring an unwavering amount of positivity and enthusiasm to any team. I’m an easy-going person and I treat others the way I want to be treated. Always ready to help with anything that needs doing or to learn about something new!

4. Go-to karaoke song?
Escape (The Piña Colada Song) by Rupert Holmes or Just a Friend by Biz Markie.

5. Where can we find you outside of work? (whichever is more interesting)

6. Life motto?
It’s better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it or make good choices. But if you don’t… take pictures.

Being a good friend
The environment

8. Hidden talents?
