Mattel called on Capsule for a rapid design process to explore new territory for existing brands. Our method was structured to produce design concepts, including 3D renderings, within a week. For quick-turn deadlines and when the window of change opens up only briefly, this methodology has shown great results for Mattel and other clients of Capsule. The two games below represent some of the work completed for the Tumblin' Monkeys and Blokus brands of family fun.

Board game packaging must reach out and grab mom’s attention from a crowded shelf. Otherwise, the product risks blending in with the clutter falling short of management expectations. Our fundamental objective was for moms to pick the game up and engage with it.


The BLOKUS brand is well established. Mattel needed a refreshed package to help build brand engagement. In large part, this involved refining the existing packaging copy and design to emphasize key communication points like – “Most-Awarded Game,” Utilizing a new brand style guide, Capsule looked at various means to make the package more inviting and convey the fun inside game box.
