Fill Your Life With Experiences, Not Things. Have Stories To Tell, Not Stuff To Show

The year 2014 is quickly coming to a close. Working through this short week leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday causes me to reflect back and think about what we were working on last year at this time. Usually the last few months of the year are focused on “tying up loose ends”, “closing the circle”, “crossing the Ts” and other cliché sayings commonly heard within corporate America. While we would not consider ourselves corporate America, we do admit to a bit of that. But, with more interest, we were also preparing to celebrate our 15th anniversary year and kicking off amazing new projects for some of our favorite brands. It has been another great year of designing experiences and conversations. For that, we are thankful.

As a smaller-in-size firm, we usually work with 15-20 clients per year. In responding to inquiries and actively seeking out our next projects, we are motivated by one thing – the story. Sure, we like getting paid for what we do, but, it’s not all about the bottom line or the client logos we display on our website. It’s not about feathering the Capsule nest with prestigious awards, sending the most creative holiday gift or throwing the biggest party at the end of the year. Success and satisfaction for us comes from the experiences we design and relationships nurtured year after year.

When we conclude projects and celebrate together over a toast of champagne, high fives and yes, even hugs, we are most satisfied by the smiles and pride we see on our clients’ faces. Over months and years of working together we invest in each other greatly. As a result, we share in the pride and our stories become one. So, this year has been a wonderful celebration of experiences that go back 15 years. And it just keeps getting better.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your story. We wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I am the HartofCapsule, caring for our clients, friends, colleagues and partners. When I’m not deep in strategy and design thought, I dream of belting out Diana Krall tunes in the blue haze of a nightclub. Until that dream is realized, I help Capsule’s clients understand and rise above business challenges through designed conversations. Within Capsule's blog, I write about general observations and occasional oddities of our designed world.
